With Sunday's deflating 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns (7-9), the Washington Commanders (7-8-1) are no longer in control of their own destiny.
A Green Bay Packers (7-8) victory over the Minnesota Vikings (12-3) in the 4 o'clock slate of NFL games on Sunday would seal the Commanders' fate and officially eliminate them from playoff contention.

That fact seemed to surprise Washington's head coach after his team's game. Ron Rivera was asked during his post-game presser if, in the instance that Washington is eliminated on Sunday, if he'd consider a move to rookie passer Sam Howell in next week's season finale against the Dallas Cowboys.
Grant Paulsen: If you guys are eliminated today by what happens at 4 o'clock, is Sam Howell in consideration?
Rivera: We can be eliminated?
Paulsen: Yeah, if the Packers beat the Vikings, then you guys are eliminated.
Rivera: Oh. Well, we'll see.
Paulsen: But would Sam be a consideration or is it Wentz vs. Taylor?
Rivera: Well, we'll see. I'm not gonna try to predict anything. We'll see what happens.
Rivera went on to comment that if his Commanders are indeed eliminated by day's end, that that would be "disappointing."
