The Junkies are realistic, in their own ways, about the Commanders hiring Dan Quinn

The Dan Quinn news broke late morning Thursday, so the Junkies were the last to get the chance to weigh in on the move – and let’s just say they’re realistic about the optics.

“I know via social media along the way, people were not enthused,” JP said. “The only guy I think that was lower on the totem pole for the fan base than Quinn was Eric Bieniemy. And I've said it before and I'll say it again: it feels like hiring Ron Rivera again."

“I think the most excited guy in the country about the hire, Rooster, is going to be insufferable tonight at the 106.7 The Fan vs. Team 980 live event,” Cakes said. “That guy LOVES him some Dan Quinn. He was victory lapping it ALL over the studies here yesterday!”

Bish, however, came out with an interesting stat.

“I like Dan Quinn too, but I was getting texts that said it was embarrassing or the wrong move,” Bish said. “I told them nobody knows. We’re about to play 58th Super Bowl, and 65 coaches have taken their teams there – and Ron Rivera and Dan Quinn are two of them. You can kill him for having a .500 record and a lot of other things, but he took his team to a Super Bowl and I think he learned a lot in those years, and his defenses have always been really good. Dallas looked like crap against Green Bay, but they were fifth in points allowed and yards allowed.”

“Look at what he does with Micah Parsons,” EB replied. “It’s that kind of innovation that you wouldn’t think a guy in his mid-50s would have. I’m very pro-Dan Quinn; I don’t know if hed have been m top choice, but it was a safe hire. We’re light years away from a Super Bowl, I just want to get better, and I think he’ll get us better.”

“If he can assemble a staff like he had in 2016 in Atlanta?” Cakes added. “He had Kyle Shanahan, Raheem Morris, both LaFleurs, and Mike McDaniel. He was indentfying guys who have almost all gone on to become head coaches.”

Of course, that 2012 Washington staff proves that’s not always a win, but we’ll see – and you can listen to the Junks’ entire discussion above!
