In the Monday Night Football tilt between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles, refs missed a crucial facemask call.
Instead, tight end Dallas Goedert fumbled the ball – in large part because a defender had grasped his facemask – and it was recovered by Jamin Davis:
The Commanders ultimately would defeat the Eagles 32-21, handing them their first loss of the season. (But not before there was another penalty that drove Eagles fans up the wall.) While there were a slew of reasons for the loss, the lack of a facemask call would loom large:
