Washington's lackluster free agency spending just became a little more perplexing.
Running back J.D. McKissic is now expected to sign a two-year, $7 million contract with the Bills, becoming the second Commanders player in as many days to sign with Buffalo (defensive tackle Tim Settle was the other).
Perhaps more confusing, Nicki Jhabvala of The Post reports that Washington did not make an offer to McKissic, one of the Commanders' key offensive producers the past two seasons.
McKissic was a valued receiving and rushing threat out of Washington's backfield, combining for 1,563 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns in 2020 and 2021. Moreover, McKissic was a key blocker in the backfield for Washington, which could be even more difficult to replace than his offense.
At an average annual value of $3.5 million, McKissic, 28, was well within Washington's range of affordability, even after taking on Carson Wentz's $28 million salary.
