Following surprising reports allowing Morgan Moses to seek a trade, the Washington Football Team is releasing the offensive tackle, the team announced on Thursday afternoon.
Washington also announced it was releasing another offensive tackle in Geron Christian Sr.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that Washington was expected to move on from Moses, the durable tackle who has not missed a start since the 2015 season. Moses has made 96 straight starts for Washington in that time.
A third-round pick in 2014, Moses was due $7.7 million in the upcoming season, and was expected to contribute to a new-look offensive line that includes Ereck Flowers, recently traded for from the Dolphins and Charles Leno Jr., who was signed as a free agent.
Moses' release comes days after reports said Washington was allowing the tackle to seek a trade.
Christian made starts at left tackle last season, including in Week 1, but was replaced by Cornelius Lucas, who kept the job through Washington’s run to the playoffs. Christian is also a third-round pick that Washington reportedly explored in potential trades, but couldn’t find a suitable partner.
