The Wizards made a huge pre-draft splash on Tuesday, trading Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, and this year’s No. 40 pick to New Orleans for C.J.
McCollum, Kelly Olynyk, and a future second-round pick.
May not be a huge swing for either side on the court, in some eyes, but when David Aldridge joined Grant & Danny to discuss the deal and Jordan Poole’s time in DC, well, he noted exactly the benefit Washington gets out of the move: cap flexibility for the summer of 2026.
Indeed, the Wizards will now have five contracts totaling over $100 million coming off the books next summer (if not sooner, if any of those players are dealt), and as NBA insider Brian Geltzeiler noted later in the show, the idea now is to stockpile as much talent as possible.
The Wizards have the No. 6 and No. 18 picks in Wednesday’s NBA Draft entering the day, so where they go with those picks will help shape the future of the roster along with recent picks Bilal Coulibaly, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Bub Carrington, but the process seems to be beginning anew.
