The huge news of the day wasn’t from Ashburn, but from Chinatown: Wes Unseld Jr. has been relieved of his duties as Wizards head coach and moved into an advisory front office role, with top assistant Brian Keefe taking over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

This was always going to be a rebuilding season for the Wiz, but at 7-36 after their latest loss, the Wiz brass decided to change Unseld’s role and look for a new steward for the new regime.

And after Adam Pole broke the news early in the 9 am hour of Thursday’s Junkies, the guys lamented how that sucks for a guy as nice as Unseld, but it’s the reality of the situation.

“The Dominoes are falling in the NBA; yesterday, of course, Doc Rivers took over as the head coach of the Bucks, and that was a team that was 31-13, but I guess 7-36 and 3-17 at home is not good enough for the Wizards management as they move on from Wes Unseld,” JP said. “I mean, he was in almost an impossible spot. You can argue about whether he's a good coach or not the first season or last season, but they were trading away their best players and in complete rebuild tank mode. So I do feel bad for him.”

“I feel bad, but they were terrible. They obviously weren't locking in with him,” EB replied. “And they really liked him coming in.”

Bish noted that ‘there’s some bad teams out there,’ and, yeah…

“What’s crazy is Gregg Popovich, who's a Hall of Fame coach, has Victor Wembanyama and he’s one game better than the Wizards at 8-36,” JP said.

“You bring up a great point because they've been bad for a few years,” EB said. “Like, how great is he maybe? He was great with Duncan and Robinson, but is he really great?”
