McDermott: Bills finished 'the way we needed to finish' in win over Patriots

Bills head coach Sean McDermott addressed the media following Buffalo's 35-31 comeback victory in New England

Foxboro, Mass. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - After another really tough start from both sides of the football on Sunday, the Buffalo Bills were, once again, able to rally from a multi-score deficit to defeat the New England Patriots, 35-31, and remain alive in the race for the AFC East.

"A resilient, tough football team. When you're down like we were at halftime, I thought the staff did a great job making adjustments and the players executed," said Bills head coach Sean McDermott following the win at Gillette Stadium.

This has become somewhat of a pattern for the Bills over the past few weeks, and many now label Buffalo as a "second half team." McDermott knows his team has to be better getting right out of the gate.

"That's something we have to work on," McDermott said. "We have to get into a rhythm sooner. But there's also an ability to adjust during a game. Anybody can come up with a game plan, but it's also what happens when they take certain things away. Are you able to pivot and adjust? I think that's the sign of a great staff."

If the Patriots had secured the win, they would have claimed the AFC East, and been able to celebrate the division title in front of the Bills, who have controlled the division for the past few years.

"It feels good to win. It does," McDermott said after being asked if it felt good to hold off a Patriots celebration. "We came in here to play a football game. We're not really into their goals. We're into our own journey, and we have a lot of respect for them. And their coaches do a great job. So we just came and wanted to play as good as we could and get a win."
