McDermott: 'Good football' being coached, but feels Bills need to be better

Bills head coach Sean McDermott spoke with the media following his team's 24-22 loss to the Broncos at Highmark Stadium

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills were unable to hold it together on Monday, resulting in a 24-22 loss to the Denver Broncos in prime-time at Highmark Stadium. The loss puts the Bills now at 5-5 through the first 10 weeks of the 2023 season.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott recognizes this type of performance as one that could cost the team its spot in the playoffs, especially if they continue making bad plays. However, McDermott stands by his team, and believes they did their absolute best, regardless of the two-point loss.

"They played hard. There is certainly things we can work on defensively," said McDermott during his postgame press conference with the media. "We’re going out there with five defensive starters out to begin with, and I thought those guys played their asses off."

The Bills were able to gain over 369 total yards of offense on Monday, 192 of which coming on the ground. It was a massive step up from their game last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, where they were only able to secure 68 rushing yards.

Although McDermott praises his team for giving their absolute best, he believes there needs to be some massive changes if they want to win.

"I don’t think everything we are doing is wrong. There is some good football being played and some good football being coached. That said, it needs to be better," McDermott said. "You can’t turn the ball over, and you can’t start by giving the team their starting field position at the minus-40-yard line. That’s not how you win in this league."
