Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - When the Buffalo Sabres began their 2025-26 campaign last week, the team had hopes of improving from last season' struggles.
However, this season is off to a trying start, with Buffalo going 0-3-0 in the first three games and only having two goals scored to show for their efforts.
Injuries have been a major concern from the start of the year, and it was only made worse on opening night when center Josh Norris suffered an upper-body injury that will force him to miss, at least, eight weeks.
With a number of other players facing injuries and other ailments, Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff wants to see more from other guys that are in the lineup.
"When the guys in the lineup get their chance, and usually a chance comes when somebody gets injured, you step up in the lineup. It's the chance you've been waiting for," said Ruff on Wednesday during his weekly appearance during the "Jeremy and Joe Show" on WGR. "We need guys to grab a hold of that and and take it right now."
What's frustrating about the start to this season is not only that the Sabres have yet to win a game, but they haven't possessed the lead once this season. Ruff hopes the adversity the team is currently facing sets them up for success in the future.
"We need to get a win tonight, and then we move on to the next game and get a win," Ruff said with Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase. "We know we're a couple points behind, and through the year, you'll have that five-game winning streak, you'll have a couple-game losing streak. Let's hope this adversity we faced in these first three games with no offense and different players in the lineup is what's going to push us through to get into a situation where we can run seven, eight games together and make up for the two points that we've given up that we need in this first five games."
