Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – With his junior season now over in the Western Hockey League, the Buffalo Sabres have sent forward Matt Savoie to the Rochester Americans.

The Amerks are preparing for the AHL Eastern Conference Finals against the Hershey Bears, and Savoie likely won’t play. Rochester has won six-straight games, and I can’t see the Amerks wanting to change things up.

Listen Live to WGR:

Savoie was taken ninth overall by the Sabres last June, and just finished his playoffs with the Winnipeg Ice. The Ice were trying to get into the Memorial Cup Final by winning the WHL, but lost out to the Seattle Thunderbirds in five games.

In 19 playoff games, Savoie was fantastic, netting 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points. During the regular season, Savoie played 62 games, netting 38 goals and 57 assists for 95 points.

Noah Ostlund was the 16th overall selection in the 2022 NHL Draft and just went back to Sweden after spending a few weeks with the Amerks practicing.

Olivier Nadeau, who was taken by the Sabres in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft, also has been practicing with the Amerks since his season ended in the QMJHL.

Nadeau played 13 playoff games with the Gatineau Olympics, scoring seven goals and eight assists for 17 points. He played 34 regular season games, scoring 22 goals and 24 assists for 46 points.

This is a great opportunity for three young players to see what goes into a playoff run in professional hockey.

In the NHL agreement with the Canadian Hockey League, players can participate in the AHL playoffs, but not the regular season, depending on their age.

Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals for the Amerks is set for Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET in Hershey.
