Las Vegas, Nev. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - With the 123rd overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres take defenseman Simon-Pier Brunet from the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).
This past season in Drummondville, Brunet played alongside Sabres prospect Vsevolod Komarov on the blue line, helping the Voltigeurs to a championship in the QMJHL. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound native of Gatineau, Quebec recorded 14 points (4+10) in 52 regular season games, while adding six points (2+4) in 19 playoff games.
In 104 total regular season games with Drummondville over two seasons, Brunet has produced five goals and 14 assists for 19 points.
Elite Prospects considers Brunet a defensive defenseman with a focus on his own end while playing a more physical style of play.
Here is more of Elite Prospects' prospect profile on Brunet:
"Brunet motors up and down the ice with a sound skating posture for a player of his 6-foot-2 size. With his skating and reach, he denies space from the opposition, closes on them in transition, and guards the front of the net. Attackers can’t go through him. He walls them off from high-danger areas."
The Sabres' next pick comes in the sixth round with the 172nd overall selection.
