The Aaron Judge sweepstakes finally came to an end early Wednesday morning as the AL MVP is reportedly in agreement to return to the New York Yankees on a nine-year, $360 million deal.
Judge’s free agency has been the focal point of the MLB offseason and things really reached a boiling point on Tuesday when a report surfaced that he “appeared headed” to the San Francisco Giants.
That report was quickly retracted, but the buzz and momentum seemed to be trending to San Francisco as both Yankees and Giants fans went to bed Tuesday night.
But during Wednesday morning’s morning commute in New York, good news was delivered that Judge was indeed returning to the Yankees, allowing for a collective sigh of relief and celebration across the city.
As for Giants fans, well, news broke around 5:20 a.m. PT, so many of them still likely had not woken up yet to see the news that they are not actually signing Judge.
Those who were awake shared their initial feelings as the Giants will now have to quickly move on after what has been an emotional roller coaster for their fans.
