The Atlanta Braves offense took a big hit when Austin Riley's hit-by-pitch on Sunday turned out to be a fractured wrist, and the Braves have decided that among the best options to replace Riley was to add recently waived 3B Gio Urshela, who the Tigers decided to move on from.
the 32-year old Gio Urshela signed a $1.5 Million deal with the Tigers this offseason, but has only slugged 5 home runs while batting .243 this season. Urshela's star was on the rise in 2019 with career highs of 21 home runs, 34 doubles, and 74 RBI while batting .314, but he's struggled to come anywhere close to those numbers ever since.
To open up the spot on the 40-man roster, the Braves moved A.J. Minter to the 60-day IL effectively ending his season as he deal with an upcoming surgery to fix a hip issue.
