Offense was at a premium in this year's Palmetto Bowl, in fact Clemson able to win the game without scoring an offensive TD. Coach Frank Beamer's style of defense and excelling on special teams created the term "Beamer Ball" during his time at Virginia Tech. On Saturday night, a dominant defense and a tremendous kicking game propelled Clemson a 16-7 win in Columbia.
The Tigers never trailed they jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 42 yard fumble return TD by Khalil Barnes. South Carolina then scored on a 12 play, 81 yard drive that was capped by a 1 yard Luke Doty TD run to tie the game at 7-7, in the first quarter.
Clemson then got three field goals over the course of the game, all from more than 40 yards out. The Tiger defense held South Carolina to a 169 total yards and just 57 yards on the ground.
Clemson has now won 8 of the last 9 meetings in the series. The win gives Clemson it's 13th straight season of 8 or more wins. The loss will give South Carolina its first losing season under third year Coach Shane Beamer.
