(670 The Score) The speculation is over.
Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald will turn down all NFL interview requests, agent Bryan Harlan told multiple outlets Thursday evening. The Packers -- and perhaps others -- had interest in intervewing Fitzgerald for their head coaching vacancies.
Fitzgerald is 96-70 in 13 seasons as the head coach at Northwestern, which finished a 9-5 season with a win against Utah in the Holiday Bowl on Monday night.
"I'm very proud to be a Wildcat, and I look forward to doing it as long the university sees that I'm the right man for the job," Fitzgerald said earlier Thursday in an interview on the Mully & Haugh Show.
"We've got a long way to go here as a program, and that's what we're going to get working on. Not that we've stopped, but I think to see the commitment of the facility, the Walter Athletics Center, now moving forward and to continue to push and move this program, I think we've made a bold commitment to each other -- multiple 10-year contracts. And my hope is we can continue to do that. But it's a testament to the program. It's not about me. It's about what we've collectively done. I'm just so thankful for everybody."
