(670 The Score) Bears receiver Allen Robinson on Tuesday declined to discuss a potential contract extension to stay in Chicago, saying his attention is on the start of this new season.
"I'm not focused on that," Robinson said when asked of his contract future. "I'm now focused on the season. We got a game this week. That's where my concern is."
Robinson, 27, is in the final season of a three-year deal that he signed with Chicago in March 2018. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent next March.
Bears general manager Ryan Pace on Monday also declined to discuss Robinson's contract situation. He did add the Bears' decision wouldn't be affected by uncertainty about the 2021 salary cap amid the coronavirus pandemic.
"We know how important A-Rob is to us, not just as a player but as a teammate," Pace said.
In Pace's tenure, the Bears have reached contract extensions with a number of key players just ahead of the start of the regular season. Under his watch, the Bears have never signed a player to a long-term contract extension during the regular season. Still, the Bears don't view this week as a deadline to extend Robinson, Pace said.
Robinson hauled in a career-best 98 receptions for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns in 2019. Chicago opens its season at Detroit on Sunday.
