Bears coach Matt Nagy tests positive for COVID-19

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) -- Bears coach Matt Nagy has tested positive for COVID-19, he said Monday morning.

"I feel pretty good," Nagy said on a media session conducted on Zoom as he's now away from the team.

Nagy's positive test came as the Bears deal with an apparent COVID-19 outbreak. They've had five players land on the reserve/COVID-19 list recently, including offensive tackle Elijah Wilkinson and linebacker Caleb Johnson on Sunday hours before Chicago lost 38-3 at Tampa Bay. Wide receivers coach Mike Furrey is also in the COVID-19 protocols.

The Bears will move forward in enhanced mitigation protocols, NFL Media reported. That requires the team to conduct daily testing, even for vaccinated players and coaches, and operate wearing masks.

Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will lead the team meetings that Nagy would usually run, Nagy said, which will allow offensive coordinator Bill Lazor and defensive coordinator Sean Desai to continue to focus on their respective units. The Bears host the 49ers at Soldier Field next Sunday.
It wasn't immediately clear whether Nagy will miss the game or if he could return.

The Bears fell to 3-4 with their loss to the Buccaneers.
