(670 The Score) Before the season began, Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson set his sights on earning All-Pro honors. He feels like that hope is on track to come to fruition.
The 24-year-old Johnson has four interceptions in 13 games and is graded as the No. 1 cornerback in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus. With that in mind, Johnson believes he has earned his standing as an All-Pro player.
“One hundred percent, one hundred percent,” Johnson told the Parkins & Spiegel Show on Tuesday when asked if he's playing at an All-Pro level. “And there are plenty of guys who have interceptions, but I think the total coverage and then adding interceptions to it, I just don’t think anybody is playing a complete game like I've been playing the entirety of the year. Just from start to finish, I feel like I’ve been playing the game at a high level just as far as coverage, interceptions, impact on the game. I feel like I've been pretty consistent as far as the level of play I’ve been playing at.”
Johnson’s strong play has come as he's in the final year of his rookie contract. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, though the Bears could use the franchise tag on him if the sides don't reach a long-term extension.
The Bears (6-9) host the Falcons (7-8) on Sunday at Soldier Field in their final home game of the regular season.
