(670 The Score) After completing his first NFL Draft as Bears general manager, Ryan Poles has made changes to his scouting department.
The Bears have parted ways with director of college scouting Mark Sadowski, national scout Chris Prescott and scouting coordinator Bobby Macedo. Such changes are common after the draft, which marks the start of a new scouting cycle.
Sadowski had been with the Bears since 2005. He was promoted to director of college scouting in 2016 by former general manager Ryan Pace. Prescott had been with Chicago since 2015 and was promoted to national scout in 2018. Macedo had been in his role since 2012.
Prescott created controversy Friday when he referred to Bears second-round safety pick Jaquan Brisker as "poor, hungry and desperate." It was unclear whether his dismissal was related to those comments.
"He’s a – what would we call it? – Ph.D," Prescott said. "Poor, hungry and desperate. Football is his life. This is this kid’s life. There’s a lot to like about that when you see a guy who’s so passionate about football."
On Tuesday, the Bears also announced the promotion of Jeff King to the position of co-director of player personnel. A seven-year NFL veteran tight end, King has been with the scouting department since arriving as an intern in 2015. He most recently served as the director of pro scouting for the last two seasons.
King joins Trey Koziol as co-director of player personnel. Poles tabbed Koziol to that position in March, bringing in a former colleague with the Chiefs' scouting department and former teammate at Boston College.
Poles hasn't yet tabbed replacements for Sadowski, Prescott or Macedo. After being hired in late January, he brought in Ian Cunningham as assistant general manager and Koziol as co-director of player personnel.
