LAKE FOREST, Ill. (104.3 The Score) — Bears quarterback Caleb Williams could be in line to return against the Falcons on Sunday.
Williams will move forward as a full participant in the Bears’ practices this week. If he clears them without any setbacks to his hamstring injury, Williams is expected to start when Chicago visits Atlanta on Sunday.
Bears head coach Ben Johnson indicated the team has a plan in place at quarterback as Williams works back with caution.
“We’re going to figure out what’s best for this football team on who plays on Sunday,” Johnson said Wednesday.
Williams has missed the last three games with his hamstring injury, which he suffered in the fourth quarter of the Bears’ loss to the Vikings on Sept. 20 at Soldier Field. Chicago has turned to backup quarterbacks Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum in the three games without Williams, going 2-1 in that span.
Williams' hamstring injury marked the first time in his three-year NFL career that he had missed a game.
The Bears are also dealing with injuries on defense. Linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring) and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo (quad) are likely to miss multiple games due to the injuries suffered in the Bears' loss to the Packers this past Sunday. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (hamstring) is considered day-to-day.
The Bears will conduct a walkthrough Wednesday afternoon, a departure from their typical weekly work, as Johnson and his staff prioritize getting players healthy. The team will release an injury report later in the day, which will be the estimation of a full practice.
The Falcons are preparing for starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to play against the Bears after he suffered a ribs injury this past Sunday.
The Bears (3-2) and Falcons (2-3) will kick off at noon CT on Sunday from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
