(670 The Score) In their trade of the No. 1 overall pick to the Panthers in March, the Bears coveted dynamic receiver DJ Moore because they believed he could help transform their offense for years to come. Moore is already doing that in debut season with Chicago, and he could leave a lasting mark in the Bears' record books if he keeps it up.
Moore has 70 receptions for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games this season, production that's on par with some of the best receiving seasons in franchise history. For his part, Moore will eventually pay attention to those marks.
“I want to leave a legacy,” Moore said Monday on the Mully & Haugh Show. “I really don’t think about it during the year, but at the end of the year, I do go back and see what I did during the year, see where I ended up in the record books to see if I need to work on some things and excel how I’m playing out there on the field.”
Brandon Marshall owns the Bears’ single-season records for receptions (118) and receiving yards (1,502), both of which he set in 2012. Marshall also had 12 receiving touchdowns in 2013, which was one shy of the single-season franchise record held by Ken Kavanaugh (1947) and Dick Gordon (1970).
Moore is currently on pace for 99 catches and 1,421 receiving yards in this 2023 campaign, albeit in a 17-game regular season as opposed to the 16-game season that was the norm when Marshall set his records.
With 70 catches this season, Moore is already tied for 83rd on the Bears’ all-time receptions leaderboard.
The Bears (4-8) host the Lions (9-3) on Sunday at Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for noon.
