(670 The Score) In snapping their 14-game losing streak and earning their first victory of the season, the Bears showcased a different defensive look last Thursday.
Coach Matt Eberflus drew up plenty of blitzes for his Bears defense, which sacked Commanders quarterback five times in a 40-20 win at FedEx Field. Chicago had just two sacks over four games prior to its win at Washington.
The blitz packages were successful in part because they weren’t expected, Bears safety Jaquan Brisker said on the Bernstein & Holmes Show on Tuesday.
“We really haven’t shown on film that we blitz a lot,” Brisker said. “Just different looks, different blitzes. Sometimes we’re going to come, sometimes we’re not. The rush, they did well working together, four equals one. That was really huge. Going forward, just the way we play aggressive like that and balance with the way we can blitz and also play straight zone, that’s good too.”
The Bears (1-4) host the Vikings (1-4) on Sunday at Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for noon.
