(670 The Score) Bulls guard Lonzo Ball confirmed Monday that he'll miss the entire 2023-'24 season as he continues his attempt to work back from a devastating left knee injury that has necessitated three surgeries since he was initially sidelined in January 2022.
While acknowledging that fact on Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young's podcast, Ball also mentioned he feels he's "on track" in his latest rehab. The Bulls had previously announced they expected Ball to miss all of the upcoming season, which will be his third of a four-year, $80-million contract with the organization.
In March, Ball had a cartilage transplant in his left knee, which marked the third operation on that knee in a 14-month span.
"I just had a really big surgery, hopefully, the last one I ever have to get," Ball said on the From the Point by Trae Young podcast. "It's a long process. I'm already out this whole next season. When I first got hurt, we didn't really know what it was. I was seeing all type of different doctors and stuff. I was just kind of going up and down. That was really hard for me because I just didn't know what the next day was going to be like. At least now, I got the surgery. We got a plan moving forward. We've been on plan. I'm on track."
Despite Ball's prolonged unavailability, waiving-and-stretching his contract isn't on the table at this time, Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas said in June.
"Hopefully, everything works out," Ball said. "I just leave it up to God and do the best I can and live with the results."
With Ball set to miss another season, the Bulls signed point guard Jevon Carter in free agency while also re-signing two of their own young guards in Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu.
