Heyward had been suffering from left index finger inflammation. He's having a poor season, hitting .198 with six homers, 22 RBIs and a .593 OPS in 83 games.
Chicago optioned outfielder Greg Deichmann to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. He went 4-of-23 (.174 batting average) with one RBI and a .348 OPS in seven games.
