(670 The Score) The Cubs have designated outfielder Johneshwy Fargas for assignment, they announced Wednesday.

Fargas, 26, hit .269 with no homers, two RBIs, three runs and a .642 OPS in 13 games for Chicago, which claimed him from the New York Mets in July.


In a corresponding move, the Cubs selected the contract of right-hander Adrian Sampson from Triple-A Iowa. He's scheduled to start when the Cubs visit the Reds for the finale of their three-game series Wednesday. The game can be heard on 670 The Score, where pregame coverage starts at 11 a.m. First pitch is set for 11:35 a.m.

Sampson, 29, has a 4.96 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 16 appearances at Triple-A Iowa this season.
