Cubs Follow Lead Of MLB, Experts On Coronavirus

(670 The Score) After MLB issued a memo to all 30 teams informing them that the league has established a task force to create a plan for possibly dealing with a coronavirus outbreak, Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein plans to meet with his players soon to discuss the situation.

The Cubs' plan is to follow the lead of MLB and medical experts, Epstein said. MLB has no plans to cancel or postpone games due to coronavirus concerns at this time, ESPN reported Tuesday.

"We are going to meet with our players in the coming days," Epstein said. "I am not an expert. It is important to rely on and listen to experts who know a lot more about it than we do. We should not be making decisions on what we hear on cable news. We should rely on experts. MLB is on top of it. It is important to follow that lead and not jump to any conclusions.

"Every team is getting a committee together to do a little planning. We want to stay ahead of preparations. No one knows how this is going to play out. I think it's important to plan for all outcomes."

The Cubs are scheduled to play the Cardinals in a two-game series in London on June 13-14. No decisions or action has yet to be taken on those games for the Cubs at this time, Epstein said.

The virus has sickened more than 92,000 people and killed 3,100 worldwide, the vast majority of them in China. Nine people have died in the U.S., all in Washington state. Most cases have been mild.
