In a corresponding move, Chicago optioned lefty reliever Kyle Ryan to Triple-A Iowa.
Alzolay had been sidelined since June 7 due to a blister on his right middle finger. He's having a strong season, posting a 4.06 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 11 starts.
Ryan has made three appearances for the Cubs this season, working 2 2/3 innings and allowing one earned run.
