(670 The Score) The Cubs have selected infielder Jared Young's contract from Triple-A Iowa and optioned infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Iowa, they announced Tuesday before opening a series against the Phillies in the evening.
Young, 27, is hitting .326 with 13 homers, 45 RBIs and a 1.031 OPS in 52 games at Triple-A this season. He made his MLB debut with the Cubs late last season, hitting .263 (5-for-19) in six games. The Cubs selected Young in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He has primarily played first base in 2023, but he also has experience playing second base, third base and the corner outfield spots in his minor league career.
Mastrobuoni has struggled mightily this season, hitting .145 with a .431 OPS in 29 games. In one more roster move, the Cubs also transferred lefty reliever Brandon Hughes from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. He has already been ruled out for the rest of the season as he deals with a left knee injury.
First pitch between the Cubs and Phillies on Tuesday comes at 7:05 p.m. CT. Pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. on 670 The Score.
