(670 The Score) Winners of 18 of their past 25 games, the Cubs have climbed to second place in the NL Central and sit 3.5 games of the division-leading Brewers entering play Tuesday.
While there's still plenty of work to be done for the Cubs, manager David Ross is enjoying how his club is playing and likes what he has seen.
"This is the stuff you root for, that you work toward, you're preparing for in spring training when you start," Ross told Laurence Holmes and Leila Rahimi on 670 The Score on Tuesday afternoon. "This is the kind of baseball and the baseball we've been playing, it's fun, exciting baseball. We're never out of a game. We've gotten some good pitching at times. The bullpen has thrown really well. We're not playing perfect baseball by any means. We can do a lot of things better, but we're winning baseball games. Guys have bought into their roles, and this is what you work for – to be pushing toward a playoff berth and a championship every single day. These guys just to work and are fun to watch and be a part of every single day."
The Cubs host the White Sox on Tuesday evening at Wrigley Field in the opener of a quick two-game set. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and pregame coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. on 670 The Score.
"Confidence goes a really long way," Ross said. "There's a high level of confidence in our locker room right now with the group we have."
