(670 The Score) Every MLB team would love to have two-way star Shohei Ohtani, and those with the financial might to make a competitive offer have a chance to fulfill their dreams.
The Cubs are one of the teams with the financial resources and foundation in place to make a run at Ohtani, who will turn 29 in July and who's expected to command record-breaking contract of around $500 million or more when he hits free agency next offseason.
While the Cubs may be a fringe contender in the Ohtani sweepstakes due to his rumored preference to remain on the West Coast, that didn't stop the Mully & Haugh Show from debating a fun hypothetical Wednesday morning. Would it be wiser for the Cubs to spend $500 million on Ohtani or to spread that money out on four or five players to address the holes on the roster of a team that sat at 24-30 through Tuesday evening?
"If you're the Cubs, you don't want to sit this one out," David Haugh said. "I don't think you want to have regret.
"You got to get involved. Get in the mix, see what you got, make your best offer and live with whatever comes next."
