(670 The Score) The White Sox have placed right-hander Michael Kopech on the bereavement list, they announced Thursday afternoon.
Under MLB rules, players must remain on the bereavement list for at least three days but not more than seven. Kopech was placed on the list one day after suffered from hamstring soreness after awkwardly falling on the mound while recording an inning-ending out in a loss to the Cardinals on Wednesday.
The White Sox had deemed Kopech "day-to-day" on the health front. He had imaging taken on his hamstring before leaving to tend to his personal matter, and manager Tony La Russa was rather optimistic about Kopech's ailment.
"You have to give it 24 to 48 hours," La Russa said. "We have our fingers crossed it's not something that will last very long. Today is the day after, and I don't know anything yet. I don't expect to know until tomorrow at the earliest. It was something that gives us an optimistic belief we can take care of."
Kopech has been sensational this season, posting a 1.78 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 30 1/3 innings. He has primarily worked out of the bullpen while also making three spot starts.
In other injury news, White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson is out of the starting lineup against the Orioles on Thursday as he deals with both thumb soreness and general soreness, the team said. The White Sox expect he'll be back in the lineup Friday. Additionally, outfielder Adam Eaton is out of the lineup Thursday as he suffers from hamstring soreness, which bothered him Wednesday.
In other moves Thursday, the White Sox purchased the contract of right-hander Ryan Burr from Triple-A Charlotte, transferred outfielder Luis Robert (hip) to the 60-day injured list and sent lefty reliever Jace Fry to Triple-A on an injury rehab assignment. Burr had a 4.58 ERA in 16 appearances for the White Sox in 2019. He didn't pitch in the big leagues in 2020.
