A fast-moving cold front and squall line will push through North Central Florida Tuesday afternoon, with an enhanced threat for severe weather.
The isolated strong-to-severe storms will bring the threat of heavy downpours, tornadoes and small hail with the worst of the weather expected between noon and 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Strong winds with gusts from 45-55 mph will move into the area after 9 a.m. Damaging wind gusts from 50-80 mph are possible as the squall line of thunderstorms moves through between 1 and 7 p.m.
Ahead of Tuesday’s storm, local officials are bracing for the potential of downed trees and power outages. Most North Central Florida counties have canceled school on Tuesday, including Alachua Co., Bradford Co., Clay Co., Columbia Co., Dixie Co., Gilchrist Co., Levy Co., and Marion County Schools.
Gov. DeSantis has activated the Florida Guard to assist Florida communities ahead of the severe weather outbreak.
