Debby made landfall around 7 a.m. near Steinhatchee and Horseshoe Beach as a Cat 1 hurricane. At 5pm Monday Debby is weakening with maximum sustained winds at 50 mph, northeast at 6 mph.
Forecasters warned heavy amounts of rain from Debby could spawn catastrophic flooding in Florida, South Carolina and Georgia.
Debby is moving slowly across northern Florida and southern Georgia late into Tuesday, and will be near the Georgia coast by Tuesday night.
Debby is expected to stall over the coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina, thrashing the area with potential record-setting rains totaling up to 30 inches beginning Tuesday.
Flooding impacts could last through Friday and are expected to be especially severe in low-lying areas near the coast, including Savannah, Georgia; Hilton Head, South Carolina; and Charleston, South Carolina. North Carolina officials were monitoring the storm's progress.
