An Episcopal reverend in Pittsburgh is accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of baseball trading cards.
Aidan Smith, head priest and administrator of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Downtown was arrested in February at Walmart in Economy Borough where he is accused of stealing 27 packs of baseball cards.
Police say that followed a multi-day spree. Local media reports say police were called by Walmart security, who alerted them that Smith was in the store again after having stolen from it in previous days.
"Police said Walmart security video shows Smith also taking baseball cards each of the four previous days and leaving without paying," per News 8.
Smith is facing theft charges and is free on $50,000 bail. As for reaction from the church, where he's a head clergyman, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh Right Rev. Ketlen Solak said diocese officials will investigate the situation and follow the church canons.
“I have spoken with Aidan and assured him of our prayers for him in this difficult time. Please pray for Aidan, for Melanie and their children, for the entire cathedral congregation as we grieve this news, and for everyone involved in this hard situation,” Solak wrote to the congregation.
