The New York Jets have seen the Bills twice this season, and Robert Saleh is expecting a third matchup.
Joe Benigno is loving the confidence.
Saleh and the Jets split the season series with Buffalo after a 20-12 loss to the Bills on Sunday. Gang Green now sits at 7-6, and could slide to ninth place in the conference if the Patriots beat the Cardinals on Monday night football.
Despite the result, the Jets head coach made a remark after the game that raised some antennas.
"Obviously, I love our guys. They fight their tails off," Saleh said, via NFL.com. "I think I speak for everyone in that we missed an (opportunity). We're going to see these guys again. I just think we are."
Considering the only other chance they’d have to meet the Bills this season is in the postseason, that comment effectively is a playoff guarantee.
So while New York will finish Week 14 on the playoff bubble, the postseason very much is in reach. Benigno said in his weekly appearance on “Tiki & Tierney” he was glad to see that Saleh’s long-term vision on the season didn’t waver after the loss.
“What he said after the game, I loved it. When he said that we will see Buffalo again, I loved it. I was like alright, that’s what I wanna hear. No doubt,” Benigno said. “And I'm going to say this: I think they've got to run the table, and I think they're going to run the table. I really do. The Lions are much better, no doubt ... the Jaguars are much better, obviously, got to beat them, and then Seattle is very beatable, run the ball on Seattle.
“And then I want the overrated Dolphins. Every time that I have to root for a team I absolutely hate, I hate the Dolphins, like I see teal I want to puke. ... Last night I've got to root for those guys and of course they lose. Tua is overrated, give me a brake – completes 10 passes against that crummy defense? Give me a break. THey've got to play Buffalo next week, you think they're going to beat BUffalo in Buffalo? No way.
The Jets didn’t do themselves many favors by dropping both games to the Patriots this season, but from a pure talent standpoint they should be able to get into the postseason. New England looks broken most weeks, and the Chargers regularly are a mess, too. The Dolphins have more upside than the Patriots and Chargers, but they’re crashing back down to earth.
So, New York has some work to do, but it’s not far-fetched to think we’ll be seeing the Jets in January.
Saleh sure seems to think we will.
