The Kansas City Chiefs will be without their outside linebackers coach, Britt Reid, when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday in Super Bowl LV.

Reid, 35 years old, won't be with the team for Super Bowl LV, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. This comes less than 24 hours after he "was involved in a multi-car accident that has left a five-year old child with life-threatning injuries," as noted by ESPN's Adam Teicher.

Tod Palmer KSHB 41 in Kansas City obtained a search warrant application in which Reid told an officer that he "two or three drinks," and the officer passed along that the Reid's eyes were "bloodshot and red." To this point, it's not clear whether the belief is that Reid was intoxicated, leading to him hitting a parked car with three passengers, two of whom were children, that had broken down after running out of gas.

Palmer's report states that both children - who were in the backseat of the car - had to be taken to the hospital, but the older of the two young children, just five years young, is fighting for its life. The identities of the children haven't been released.

The organization issued the following statement:

Reid's father, Andy, is one of the most accomplished head coaches in NFL history, and is hoping to guide the Chiefs to their second consecutive Super Bowl title against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers Sunday.

Reid's older brother, Garrett, passed away in the summer of 2012, before his father's final season as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. His death was caused by a drug overdose.

Britt had been sentenced to eight to 23 months of jail time plus probation in November of 2007 after pleading guilty to a felony gun charge, as he pointed an unlicensed handgun at a driver who he got into an argument with. However, Britt had gotten his life on track after troubles in his early 20s, and has been on his father's coaching staff since the 2013 season, when he took over in Kansas City.
