Nationals top prospect Keibert Ruiz homered in his debut at Triple-A Rochester Tuesday night, a brief glimpse into what's expected to be a promising career.
Acquired in last week's trade that sent Max Scherzer and Trea Turner to the Dodgers, the 23-year-old switch-hitting catcher already made his Major League debut a year ago, but will begin with his new organization at Triple-A, as Nationals manager Dave Martinez wants him to catch every day for now.
It didn't take long for Ruiz to get acclimated to his new surroundings. He went 1-for-4 at the plate and smashed a solo homer from the left side in the bottom of the eighth, putting Rochester up 3-0.
Ruiz also gunned down a runner trying to swipe a bag in the third.
For Nationals fans still adjusting to all the new faces in the organization after last week's trade deadline frenzy, it's pronounced 'Kay-bert.'
