Rob Ninkovich won two Super Bowl titles during eight seasons with the New England Patriots, and the former edge rusher believes signing Lamar Jackson would help his former franchise to win their seventh championship.
Ninkovich appeared on ESPN's "Get Up!" Friday, and made his case for Bill Belichick and company to sign the former NFL MVP:
Because the Baltimore Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, all other 31 teams are free to negotiate with Jackson. However, Jackson does not have an agent and the Ravens would be able to match any offer that the 26-year-old would sign. If the Ravens didn't match the offer, the new team would acquire Jackson, but they would have to send two first-round picks back to Baltimore. So there are a lot of moving parts here.
The Patriots also are seemingly committed to Mac Jones for another season, though Jackson is clearly the superior quarterback. Bill O'Brien, back as offensive coordinator, would need to build an entirely different offense for Jackson than the one he's likely developing right now for Jones to run.
