Hoffman Show: Commanders problem going forward from Ron Rivera’s continued failure to evaluate, develop talent

It is only Week 13, but the draft talk has started in Washington. For Craig Hoffman, "I think it's imperative that with their first pick, whenever that is, they get an elite player."

And why is that so important? Well, because the Commanders have done so little to develop any kind of talent over the last four seasons. "They will not in the Ron Rivera era" ever have a guy who developed into the best player on the team, he said. "When [Rivera] got here, [the best player] was either Jon Allen or Terry McLaurin and when he leaves it will be Jon Allen or Terry McLaurin. And that's inexcusable."

In one of the other calls on a Vibe Check Tuesday about Ron Rivera's shortcomings as a talent evaluator, Hoffman doesn't go as far as to say the current Commanders head football decision-maker is a terrible talent evaluator, but that he's done a terrible job of maximizing the talent on the roster and that has big implications moving forward and makes the next GM have an even more difficult decision when it comes to looking at the quarterback position and Sam Howell.
