SOURCE: Commanders would have to pay big money to lure Eric Bieniemy

Many have wondered if the reason the Commanders have yet to hire a new offensive coordinator is because they could be targeting Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy after the Super Bowl.

A source now tells 106.7 The Fan's JP Finlay that Bieniemy could have multiple opportunities on the table for him and that choosing whether he chooses Washington might come down to what the Commanders are willing to pay.

The source tells Finlay that Bieniemy could command an annual salary north of $2.5 million.

Bieniemy, 53, has been with Andy Reid in Kansas City since 2013 and, already with one Super Bowl title to his name, his value would only go up if the Chiefs can beat the Philadelphia Eagles.

It's also widely understood that Reid calls his own plays, despite Bieniemy serving in the official capacity of offensive coordinator since 2018.

But that's not to say Bieniemy hasn't played a big role in Patrick Mahomes' development and the Chiefs' complex offense. The question becomes is he interested in the opportunity to make a lateral move to OC in order to showcase his talent as a play caller so he can improve his resume to get a head coaching job?

If he does, is Washington willing to break the bank for him?

The Commanders have already interviewed a host of other candidates, including Eric Studesville (Dolphins), Thomas Brown (Rams), Charles London (Falcons), Pat Shurmur (Broncos) and Ken Zampese (Commanders). But it's already been three weeks since Scott Turner was fired as Washington's OC, so the timing certainly seems curious.
