Following the Texans' loss at the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round, Craig Hoffman sounds off after some segments of Washington's fan base were quick to write off Houston offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik as a head coaching candidate for the Commanders based on one game's performance.
While the Texans' offense was handled by (another potential Commanders HC candidate, Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald) led by rookie quarterback CJ Stroud managed just three points on offense and never got closer than the Baltimore 29-yard line on Saturday, Hoffman argues that simply hiring the coordinator of the team who wins is "not actually that helpful of a piece of information."
"I want to know how they'd be as a head coach," Hoffman continues. "How you do as a coordinator is important, it's really important especially if you're going to be the coordinator. But how you do – in terms of wins and losses – is obviously very dependent on the players and organization that you have. And a guy like Sean McVay has done just fine even though he never got to an NFC Championship game and never won a playoff game as a coordinator here in Washington. In fact, his last game in Washington was terrible."
Hoffman believes there's an "obsession" with the results now compared to a track record and when the key piece of information is still unknown: how will they manage a team as the top guy in charge?
