As storm clouds continue to gather over Daniel Snyder, the Washington Commanders owner pushed back against recent reports about him.
Following a damning ESPN report last week that alleged Snyder claimed to others he had dirt on his fellow NFL owners, the Commanders owner pushed back on those claims, and others, in a statement he released to league owners on Tuesday when they all convened in New York.
Snyder says the ESPN report contains “false and malicious statements” and addressed the allegation he hired private investigators to dig into other owners and commissioner Roger Goodell specifically.
“That is patently false and intended to erode the trust and goodwill between owners that I take quite seriously,” Snyder wrote. “I have never hired any private investigator to look into any owner or the Commissioner. I have never instructed or authorized my lawyers to hire any private investigator on my behalf for any such purpose. And I never would.”
The letter takes special exception with the way Commanders team president Jason Wright was characterized: An executive with knowledge of the hire is quoted by ESPN as saying the league "placed him."
"It is particularly shameful for ESPN to diminish the very real accomplishments of our President Jason Wright, who ESPN alleges was placed at the Commanders by the League and has no power to make real change," the letter reads.

Snyder also says that ESPN ignored their efforts to “correct the many falsehoods in their article” despite the article including extensive statements from outside lawyers and a Commanders spokesperson denying the allegations.
Snyder is currently being investigated by the NFL, which hired attorney Mary Jo White, on allegations of workplace misconduct following a congressional committee probe on the subject, which NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed Tuesday continues to be ongoing.
It is just one of several negative stories that have continued to follow Snyder.
Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay also shocked some by saying he believes there is “merit to remove” Snyder as owner of the Commanders and that there “potentially could be” 24 votes from the league – the minimum necessary to remove an owner.
