The Washington Commanders and a Top 5 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft appear to be on a collision course. And that would give the new regime – head coach and general manager – in Washington, a chance to draft a quarterback in a quarterback-rich draft.
On a vibe check Tuesday on The Hoffman Show, one caller had this to say about the possibility of Washington drafting a quarterback: "Quarterback to me is not a priority. [Sam Howell is] young, he's solid, he may not be a Hall of Famer, he may not be a franchise guy, but he's solid for right now. He'd be a lot better if he had better protection. Play-calling to me is a little up and down. Don't like some of the play calls, but again, [Eric Bieniemy] is new... they're adjusting game plans to the talent he has to work with... people gotta have a little patience with these guys and I think it will work out great."
Craig Hoffman concurs that quarterback is not a priority for Washington but with this caveat: Quarterback is the ultimate, if you have the chance to draft a top guy, you have to do it.
"If one of the guys who's at the top of this draft, you think is a Hall of Famer at quarterback, you have to take him unless you think Sam is also a Hall of Famer. If not, I personally, would not take another quarterback," Hoffman said.
