Special teams could have a big impact on Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, which is where someone like Jamison Crowder could be the unsung hero that helps Washington move on to the Super Bowl.
Crowder was big in the Week 16 matchup where the Commanders beat Philly to finally get a win over a team with a winning record, scoring the game-winning TD, so why not do it again?
“That was definitely a huge win; any win is huge, because it’s not easy to win, but a division win, and for us to have played as bad as we did in the first half and bounce back, it said a lot about our team,” Crowder told Kevin Sheehan Thursday. “Getting that win gave us a confidence boost, but we still knew at the same time coming out of that game that we didn't play as well as we should have, so we knew we had a lot to fix. It was a different kind of game, and hard to explain turning it over five times and still winning, but it was a boost for us.”
Turnovers were how the Commanders got past Detroit last weekend – as in they had none and forced five, which led to a good chunk of points – but when you’re rolling offensively, that’s a bonus instead of a necessity.
“I don't think I have. I look back at my college days, we had some good offenses, but I don’t think we were ever rolling like this and scoring like this,” Crowder said when Kevin asked if he’s ever been part of a juggernaut like this. “We’ve put up 30 or 40 a couple of games now, and that’s tough to do in this league.”
And, it’s easy to roll, he says, when all 53 are on the same page, and it’s one for all, all for one like the brotherhood these Commanders have.
“The closeness and chemistry of this team, just coming in day to day…Dan does a really good job of allowing guys to be themselves, and express who they truly are, and we have a good group of guys that gets along well,” Crowder said. “On gameday, we just all kind of feed off each other's energy, and ever since OTAs, we’ve kind of built this chemistry and bond, and it shows out there on the field. I just think that it's a genuine care for each other, and you don't find that a lot of times across the league.”
