Jayden Daniels listed as QB1 on Commanders first depth chart. What does it mean?
The Washington Commanders released their first 'unofficial' depth chart ahead of the preseason opener on Saturday against the New York Jets and No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels is listed as QB1.
"I think all of us knew he was gonna be QB1," producer Denton Day told Doc Walker (in for Kevin Sheehan on Tuesday). "But it is nice to be validated by the coaching staff and the team, seeing the same thing you guys are seeing, we are enjoying, we are loving and this is our guy."
But, like Doc said on Monday, "once the bullets start flying then we start... then it starts to matter."
"I like it because I don't think it affects him," Doc continued. "I think people on the outside are way more affected by it than him and that's the good news as far as I'm concerned. 'Cause to me its completely irrelevant [at this stage of training camp.]"
On the way Daniels has navigated this process in his first NFL season, Walker added: "There's no reason to put it out there and say, 'He's the guy!' You can see if you watch practice that you know that dude is gonna be the guy. You kinda know that, but I like the way they played that. There's no benefit to pushing him out. There's no detriment if you hold him back. It all will be determined when it's real. All this is dress rehearsal. All of this is make-believe until it counts. None of this matters until Tampa [in Week 1].
"And I like the approach because he didn't buckle under it. He seems unphased... I couldn't be happier with the way he handles the things we're privy to."
