We heard the gamut of responses when the Commanders hired Dan Quinn, ranging from the rah-rah of him being a great leader of men to those who hated a retread, defensive-minded head coach.
As time goes on, though, and Quinn has built out his staff and people have raved about him so far, are those people on the far end of the negative spectrum starting to slide over and embrace Quinn?
The Junkies discussed the new staff and played Rick Spielman’s recent comments that had glowing praise of Quinn and the hire by Adam Peters, but it seems like the three of them are still split?
“He clearly blew them away in-person, and I know a lot of Commanders fans wanted the hot young coordinator, but it didn’t work out,” Bish said. “You got an experienced guy.”
“He blew them away so much he had a picture taken of him in the airport after he left and wasn’t signed on the spot,” Cakes snarked. “Look, I understand they landed on Quinn, but let’s not re-create history and act like he was at the top of the list from the beginning.”
Bish shot back that we don’t know what that list looked like, but they went through the process and this is where we are – and we don’t know how everything went down.
“My point is, Commanders fans were very lukewarm if not against the hire, but now that he’s putting together this All-Star staff?” Bish said. “There’s a lot of guys who have experience, 20-21 new guys. Total overhaul, and there’s going to be one on the roster.”
“I like what I’ve heard about Dan Quinn, even if he’s done every radio show in town but ours,” Cakes snarked back. “Is he going to have a backwards hat on while he’s coaching on the sidelines? That’d be quite the look!”
