Pete Hailey is at the beach, but the co-host of the Beltway Football Podcast takes his phone everywhere – and despite some trouble getting said phone to work, he joined the Junkies on Thursday to discuss how Ron Rivera looked, and seems to feel, a lot looser at Commanders camp now that new ownership is in place.
"Ron was joking around and asked someone how their summer was, and when they said probably not as good as yours, he laughed, cursed, and said 'you didn't just have the weight of the world lifted off your shoulders,'" Hailey said of Wednesday at camp. "He looked like he was doing a stand-up set – he looks and feels really at ease."
EB thinks that's 'crazy' given the pressure Rivera is under – but he and Hailey agree this is a make-or-break year, even as much as it's different in tone.
"It tells you that as much as he had to stand up there and pretend that working for Dan Snyder was okay, deep down he knew it was just as bad as everyone else did," Hailey said. "But yeah, now the real test starts; Dan made a habit of making people into human shields, and now that he's gone, everyone is going to get grilled more. I'm glad Ron is relaxed now, but let's hope he doesn't get too comfortable, because this could be the last season of his career if he isn't successful."
Hailey also broke down what he saw from Sam Howell on Day 1, the QB situation as a whole, the Eric Bieniemy offense in action and more – take a listen!
