Still two months to go before the NFL Draft, but to be fair, the Commanders’ decision at No. 2 is going to be perhaps the biggest the new regime makes for a long time.
It’s gonna be a QB, and we’ve heard pros and cons of Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, even Caleb Williams and others – but who is the ‘right’ guy?
The Junkies played some clips of Rick Spielman’s thoughts on Caleb Williams being a ‘special talent,’ but of course, he’s projected No. 1 and that’s owned by the Bears.
“They may covet him and realize we’re not going to move off this pick, because this is our signal-caller for decades,” Cakes said.
Then again…
“He’s the guy who was brought in to help find the GM, so they had to have talked about the quarterback,” JP said. “I don’t know if he’ll be leaned on by the organization in the coming weeks, although my guess is not.
There will be a lot of people in the war room, but it is interesting to hear from him.”
They then played Spielman’s thoughts on QB2 – he likes Drake Maye and th– and what if the Commanders don’t like Maye as much
“There are scenarios where teams will want to move up to No. 2, and the Commanders can trade down if they like Nix, McCarthy, or Penix, although I don’t think anyone here favors that move,” JP said. “It is interesting hearing the opinions, though, because it will be a defining pick for Adam Peters – whoever they pick, you’re going to be paying attention to the guy they DIDN’T pick.”
The guys mentioned how last year is a perfect example, where Bryce Young flopped but CJ Stroud won a division title and Anthony Richardson had the Colts in playoff push mode before he got hurt. Comps are comps, but what if Jayden Daniels is Stroud and Drake Maye is Richardson?
“What if Daniels is polished and has proven it in the SEC, the results there on tape, while Drake Maye didn’t have the numbers but has the size, and is more the clay you have to mold?” JP asked.
