Sheehan: Ben Standig talks latest mock draft with Commanders making two first-round picks

We will find out who Adam Peters and the Washington Commanders will take with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft – if they do not end up trading down, that is – in 31 days.

With that being said, Ben Standig of the Athletic joined Kevin Sheehan to go over his first mock draft of the draft season and – subject to change – the former champion mock drafter has the Commanders selecting LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels – after the Chicago Bears select USC QB Caleb Williams – at No. 2 and ahead of the New England Patriots taking Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy.

In his piece, a high-ranking NFC scout told Standig: "Jayden probably made more progress (year over year) than any QB coming out in the last five or six years. He can anticipate, make all the throws and is a great athlete."

But with the Commanders making a pick at No. 2 does that mean Peters is done in the first-round? Not so fast, says Standig.

He has the Commanders making a trade with the Baltimore Ravens at the end of Round 1 (sending picks No. 40 and 78) to select Tyler Guyton, offensive tackle out of Oklahoma, with the 30th overall selection.

And the conversation is only just getting started. Listen to the complete segment which begins with Standig – in Orlando, Fla. for the NFL owners' meetings – discussing some proposed rule changes that are likely to come to pass and could impact kickoffs and the banning of the hip-drop tackle. Catch that on the audio player above!
